About Us
We started brewing soda in early 2001, concocting a variety of
flavors for friends at a home pop tasting. At that time, we owned
a mobile kitchen and vended at Vermont events and celebrations with
a full menu of gourmet and natural foods--and artificial canned
sodas. With some homebrewing equipment, a five gallon brew pot,
hand crank juicer and an old fashioned soda pop book, we came up
with recipes for natural soda using fresh fruits, roots, herbs and
cane sugar.
In 2003, we started bottling Pop Soda from a single-head manual
bottle filler in our home kitchen. We sold the mobile kitchen to
raise money for a seven barrel micro soda brewery, comprised of
used components purchased from small New England beer breweries.
We sampled local retailers door to door, self distributed Pop Soda
locally, and participated in local farmers markets, forming face-to-face
relationships with retailers and customers.
In 2006, we were evaluating ways to increase production and contacted
Otter Creek Brewing in Middlebury, Vermont. We developed a plan
to brew and bottle Pop Soda at Otter Creek's Brewery, converting
our original seven barrel brewery into expanded space to juice fresh
citrus fruits, house Pop Soda inventory and sample customers at
our retail
shop. Once the fruits
are juiced, we now head across the Green Mountains to Middlebury,
where we brew Pop Soda and oversee the bottling operation at Otter
Creek's facility.
In the early days of Pop Soda, our friends at the Red Hen Baking
Company in Duxbury, VT helped deliver our product in their bread
vans. We continue to work with independent, local distributors and
source our honey from French Hill apiaries in St. Albans, VT. We
are grateful for local support and for the opportunity to grow with
the help of local businesses!
